Social Bookmarking

Today, we are going to look at something that is still relatively new in the Internet Marketing arena: Social Bookmarking. Social Bookmarking is essentially using a social bookmarking service to bookmark your webpages or blog posts, so that other users of the bookmarking site can visit. When you bookmark a site, you tag it with keywords, and people can search for the keywords that reflect their interests at the social bookmarking site.

Does it work? Absolutely! In fact, this is a very fast way to generate really good traffic to your site – for free. Again, you will want to try to get them on your opt-in list, once they arrive at your site, so that you can bring them back again and again. Notice that I said ‘really good traffic.’ This is good traffic because the visitor finds your site by searching for the keywords that you’ve used when you bookmarked it. They are essentially looking for you. For this reason, it is important to use keyword tags, for each page, that are absolutely relevant to the content on that page. Don’t try to use unrelated keywords, this tactic simply won’t work.

There are numerous social bookmarking sites out there, and hitting them all, to bookmark each page of your website, could literally take days, if not weeks. Fortunately, there are social bookmarking services that will send your bookmarks and tags to numerous social bookmarking sites in one fell swoop.

You want a service that targets the best social bookmarking sites, and that service is Only Wire, at http://www.onlywire.com. Only Wire is free to use (another bonus). Getting set up with Only Wire takes a couple of hours, because you will need to go to each of the social bookmarking sites that it lists, register, and then put your username and password for each site into the list at Only Wire.

Once that is done, you will add the Only Wire icon to your browser toolbar (very easy to do – you just click, hold the mouse button down, and drag and drop it up there). Now, you are all set up. When you are ready to bookmark your pages, first go to the Only Wire site and login. Leave that window open. Nothing could be easier, and again, it is very effective.

Homework Assignment: Join Only Wire at http://www.onlywire.com. Register for each site on the list, and get Only Wire all set up. Add the bookmark icon to your browser toolbar, and go to each page of your website, click the icon, and add it to the social bookmarks and tag each page with keywords.

Joint Venture Giveaways

In this traffic generation post, we are going to discuss how joint venture giveaways will help you generate traffic to your site. In fact, they do more than generate traffic. Joint venture giveaways will also help you build a large opt-in list, in a very short period of time, and you can bring those visitors back to your site time and time again.

Joining a joint venture giveaway is easy and free. You just need to find a giveaway, and these can be found through joint venture related forums, or through the search engines. Once you’ve found a giveaway, you need a free gift to give away.

This can be something that you create yourself, or have created for you, such as a free report, an audio, a video, or an ebook – or even a piece of software. It can also be a Private Label Rights product that you have. The important thing is that your gift has value to the people that will be downloading it.

You need an autoresponder and a website. Set up an opt-in page, which is often called a squeeze page or a capture page, on your site. Connect it to your autoresponder, and in your autoresponder, set up a list for the giveaway. Create your confirmation email and download for the gift email in your autoresponder.

Determine where the visitor will go, once they hit the submit button on your opt-in page. They can go to the first page of your site. They could be sent to a sales page for an affiliate product that you sell. You could set up a One Time Offer, or OTO, where they have one chance to purchase a product from you, at a special price.

Finally, when you are all set up on your end; submit your information to the host of the joint venture giveaway event. They will typically want the name of your gift, the URL of your opt-in page, a description of that gift, and the link to the graphic that represents your gift, such as a graphical ebook cover or CD cover.

While you will build a nice big list with the joint venture giveaway, remember that your purpose is to generate traffic as well. You don’t want people showing up, getting their gift, and leaving – never to be seen or heard from again. Your list resolves a lot of this, because you can use it to bring them back.

But at the same time, when your visitor is redirected after submitting the form, try to have them redirected to a page on your site that will immediately capture their attention, and keep them there for a while, even after they have been given their free gift.

Homework Assignment: Visit some joint venture related forums, and find at least one joint venture giveaway to participate in. Create your gift, create your opt-in page, and any other pages that you need for the giveaway, and watch the traffic roll in!

Search Engine Optimization

While you are running ads through one or more pay per click programs, it is important to not underestimate the effectiveness of the content of your own site. In fact, paying close attention to your own web content will help your web site to show up higher on search engines. The magic way this happens has to do with search engine optimization.

Here is how the process works, and why it is so important to make the best use of this value method of publicizing your web site.

When people think of search engine optimization, the first thing they think about is keywords scattered through the content that is found on the site. Keywords help people who are interested in what you have to offer find your site.

Generally, persons entering one of those important keywords into one of the several search engines will be directed to sites that are directly of interest. A judicious use of keywords on your part will help improve the chances that you will appear in those listings.

Along with keywords that are in the text of your web content, you also want to register your web site with each of the various search engines. As part of that registration, you can include all sorts of keywords that will add your site to a search command.

You can use terms that have a direct relationship to the content and purpose of your site, as well as keywords that have some indirect relationship to your content. For example, if your web site has to do with pet supplies, a direct keyword would be “pet.” An indirect keyword might be something like house, bed, or snacks.

Registration on all the search engines does not cost anything, if you choose to take the time to do the work yourself. However, there are services that will create a profile for you and register your web site on a huge number of sites on your behalf.

Many of these services do an excellent job, but be prepared to pay for what you get. Most of these registration services offer different size packages, with each package including a select number of search engines.

While some of the packages will include the more popular search engines, it is always a good idea to verify which of the engines are included. This will help you to determine if the price tag is worth it.

If you choose to go with a registration service for the search engine optimization, make sure you provide them with an exhaustive list of keywords. Once the task is done, you cannot go back and update the list at will.

Don’t rush into this project. Instead, take a few days and add more keywords to the list as you think of them. After several days, you will probably have a list of keywords that is broad enough to make a real impact.

One other benefit of using a registration service is that some of them will guarantee that your site will make it to the top of the search engine results. Be prepared to pay extra for this option.

However, it may be worth the extra cost if there is a lot of competition in your line of work. You can gauge the effectiveness of the venture by the number of hits you receive, plus the resulting value of the sales you make.

Of course, you can also handle the registration site on your own. This will involve going to each search engine individually and setting up the search engine criteria. A good rule of thumb is to come up with your list of keywords and key phrases before you jump into the task.

Have the list in an electronic format, so you can cut and paste them into the registration form. This will save you a lot of time with the data entry, and allow you to move much more quickly in completing each registration.

Another tip is to begin with the well known search engines first. Generally, it takes somewhere between twenty-four to forty-eight hours to deploy information about a web site into the search engine files.

By taking care of major search engines first, such as Yahoo, Google, AOL, and MSN, you will have an Internet presence very quickly. Once these are taken care of, you can move on to some of the smaller search engines.

Don’t dismiss the smaller search engines as part of your search engine project. While the major engines will cover just about all the Internet, you never know when one of the minor engines will yield some results. Since it costs nothing to register with the engine–all which is required is a bit of your time. And after all, one sale is more than a make up for your investment.

Most search engines provide information about registration that will provide you with some tips on how to create the registration profile. In some cases, the process is very quick, provided you have all the details and keywords handy.

Try one or two of the search engines first, just to get a feel for how much time and effort is involved. Then, you will be able to decide if registration is something that you want to do on your own, or farm out to a service.

Pay per Click Advertising

One of the easiest methods to employ in your plan to drive traffic to your site is pay per click advertising. This particular advertising model has been around since the late 1990’s and has been a means of generating hits for many different businesses with an online presence.

Pay per click advertising is an excellent way to get the word about your company to a wide audience. The process involves spotting an ad on various web sites that will forward an interested party back to your web site.

Part of the attraction of pay per click advertising is that the ad owner only pays when someone clicks on the ad and actually follows through to the web site.

When it comes to PPC advertising, never forget the importance of keywords. Essentially, keywords are words and phrases that are considered to be common modes of searching the Internet to find desired content.

As an advertiser, your job is to come up with keywords that you believe are likely to take you to web sites that are relevant to the type of business site you currently operate. The rationale is that persons who visit those sites would most likely be interested in the content of your site.

If you manage to find the right web sites for your ads, then the chances of generating clicks to your site are much greater.

While the keyword mode of pay per click advertising is very common, there is also a second method. Known as content match PPC, the principle is still the same.

The main difference is that rather than basing the search on keywords, the results are based on the content of the site. As an example, if you run a site that is dedicated to gardening supplies, then it would be a natural for you to want to place ads on sites dedicated to gardening.

Content matching can be used right along with keywords to create a well rounded pay per click component in your overall publicity campaign.

Finding online resources to help you with the process of placing pay per click ads is relatively easy. One of the most popular approaches is to make use of the Google Adwords program. You can get started by identifying a list of relevant keywords. You can also get help in designing the appearance of your ad, using online tools.

Adwords also includes a number of online tools, so you can keep track of how many hits get to your web site through those hits. This allows you to stay on top of how much pay per click is advertising is costing you each month. By comparing the sales that result from the hits with the cost of your pay per click campaign, you can determine if the program is making money for you.

Another target for your pay per click campaign is online comparison shopping engines. These types of engines often are willing to provide feeds through the placement of ads on their searches.

Just as with the ads on informational web sites, persons can click through to your web site and see what you have to offer. Some of these sites provide you with the ability to see the number of hits, while others do not. Payment for placing the ad on the shopping comparison site may be in the form of a fixed monthly amount or based on a fixed rate per click.

Keep in mind that there is no such thing as exclusionary pay per click arrangement. This means you can sign up with as many keyword and shopping ad services as you like. In fact, you may do very well to try out several different services, to see which ones seem to provide you with the best matches and coverage.

If funds for advertising are limited, go with a well known service, and then add more services as your revenue stream builds to the point you can afford to do so. Remember that your goal is to build a solid foundation for your web site, so it may take some time before you begin to see results.

Disregard stories about overnight success. Chances are you will go about six months to a year before you see significant traffic that results in sales.

Pay per click advertising is often an affordable way to launch your advertising campaign. The cost per click is often a fraction of a cent, so it certainly will not cost a great deal, unless you happen to get a huge number of visitors clicking through to your site.

The law of averages would dictate that of that huge number, enough sales would result to make your investment in the pay per click program well worth your time and the expense.

Let’s face it; nobody wants to pay for every single visitor they get to their websites right?

Sure, PPC is a powerful aspect of internet marketing, but also requires a lot of maintenance and higher risks.

However, with free traffic, all you’re giving up is your time (presuming you’re trying to get it yourself).

But time is not something we have an abundance of, so let’s look at how to get plenty of free, targeted traffic to your websites as an affiliate…today!

1. Focusing on a huge market
The first piece of the puzzle is the demand. No matter what you do to promote your website, you’ll always struggle if there is simply too little demand inside the marketplace you get involved in.

Don’t be afraid to go after the big markets, as clearly there is so much demand going on, you can take a small cut off the side and still make a killing.

2. Articles that focus of huge demand topics
It’s no secret that articles are still one of the best ways to drive traffic to any type of website that you desire. However, many people still make the mistake of writing articles that are not targeting the right people for their affiliate offers.

To avoid this, simply do your due diligence when picking out keywords to focus your articles on. Write the entire article around the keyword. The keyword itself must be a keyword that is closely related to the offer you’re trying to promote.

For example, don’t write an article on aerobic exercises and try to promote tennis shoes. Instead, write an article on a specific tennis training technique and then talk about how a good tennis shoe can help you in your game…THEN lead the visitor to your tennis shoes website.

To get lots of free traffic as an affiliate using articles, you do NOT always have to write hundreds of articles, you just need to write quality articles that people will link to, share and most importantly, click through to your website from!

3. Lots of inbound links
Another key to serious traffic from the search engines and referring websites is inbound links. The more you have the more listings you’ll be rewarded with in the various search engines.

Sure, it’s not always a quick way to get traffic, but boy is it worth it. Here’s what you can do to get started:

- comment on other people’s blogs
- submit your site to relevant niche directories
- write more articles
- write exclusive content for other websites (article directories, web 2.0 sites like squidoo, hubpages, tumblr…) to use with a backlink to your website
- submit your blog feed to rss directories and rss aggregators

4. Jumping into large portal sites
Social networking sites are a haven for traffic, purely due to the large volume of people visiting them each day. Youtube, Digg, Myspace, Facebook, and thousands upon thousands of other sites are teaming with people who are interested in the products you are promoting.

Get over there and start dropping some links, adding content and getting involved. You don’t need to devote your life to this, just dip your feet in and get some extra exposure to your website, leveraging the sheer volume of existing traffic on these websites.

Not only can this bring direct traffic, but also provides another backlink to your blog which is great for a little SEO boost. When would this be most effective? Probably when I have a contrasting opinion to your original post or if I have something helpful (or controversial) to add to the original post.

These are just 4 of many ways to explode your blog traffic for free. But they should give your blog already a good start.

OK, let’s get back to business and discuss the ways you can make money blogging. PayPerPost and ReviewMe are two good ways to start making money. The good thing about these services is that they aren’t related to click through rates, traffic, and other related metrics. They are excellent programs for busy bloggers. If you wish, you may write review for other people for a fee.

WHAT DOES IT DO?
I suppose the name is pretty self explanatory as to what this product focuses on - bogging. But essentially this guide is split into two parts aimed at beginner bloggers and advanced bloggers. The guide aims to take you through all the necessary steps to build a blog with a serious presence in your chosen niche, to the point where your traffic levels are through the roof and your subsequent sales (whether affiliate commissions or your own product sales) are truly explosive.

Essentially, many of the steps that you are taken through share the same approach as any other website building process, but with blogging there are many details and tactics that can be implemented to have a dramatic effect on your success.

Because of the social nature of blogs, along with their in built ability to communicate automatically with other blogs and search engines, the potential to ramp up serious traffic with blogs is tremendous. However, we’re not here to hype but instead to find out if this guide can actually deliver on its’ promise.

After all, not everyone who creates and works on their blog becomes as rich as Rob. So what is it that he knows that you or I don’t? Will he reveal such secrets in this guide or is this just one of those “rub it in your face” types of products that are a total waste of time and money?

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
On arrival to the main product (which is a PDF), I was introduced to Rob Benwell and was told about his previous success with blogging and teaching others how to blog for big money. At this point, I couldn’t care less and I never believe a word until I know whether the techniques actually work or not.

Then Rob quickly proceeds to point out some big changes that have happened since his last publication (Blogging To The Bank 2.0) and hence why he felt the need to release a 3.0 version. This is understandable, although I would be interested to know if previous owners of 2.0 got 3.0 at a discount?

One thing that I notice is that there a several spelling mistakes early on, which makes me feel a little sceptical about someone who professes to make millions by writing. But that’s probably just me being picky, because it’s not always the grammar but the content itself that matters.

There’s also a nice lead into the first chapter called the “5 Blogging Commandments” for 2009, which gives a nice outline of what types of blogs will be successful in the coming years. But at this point, this information means nothing until I get down to the details.

The general layout and order of the content seems really well planned and this seems to be carefully put together. This should make for an easier read and although I didn’t manage to get my hands on the bonuses (some are very limited time only anyway), the main guide seems more than enough to cover off everything I need to know in order to get really deep into this blogging game.
